Mariani Nut Company is a Global Food Safety Initiative Certified Facility (GFSI) with an “AA” Rating from the British Retail Consortium.

The BRC food safety program has become the global standard for technical protocol for food suppliers. These comprehensive food safety audits evaluate the company on all levels from receiving to processing and packaging in seven categories, many overlapping to intentionally create redundancy in oversight. While Mariani has always had a strong commitment to the safety and quality of its products, choosing to undergo regular BRC audits reassures customers that Mariani is unwavering in wanting to meet the highest standards. Senior management is committed to this process and to continual improvement.

Levels evaluated include:

  • A food safety plan that includes HAACP standards

  • Food safety and quality management

  • Site standards

  • Product control

  • Process control

  • Personnel

Mariani meets all USDA and FDA requirements and is committed to quality assurance and safety. This includes retaining a manager specifically tasked to oversee all audits, documentation and employee training while numerous supervisors focus on sanitation, pest control and security. These responsibilities are carefully coordinated and team members communicate across all departments and operations.

Numerous steps are taken to prevent cross contamination and control allergans; no peanuts are processed in the facilities.

DFA of California, Member and Pinnacle Plant of the Year Award

Mariani has been a member since 1977, previously known as the American Council for Food Safety and Quality serving the dried fruit and tree nut industry for 100 years. DFA works with packers, processors and exporters to ensure products and facilities meet the highest standards of food safety and quality.

In 2014 Mariani received the Pinnacle Plant of the Year Award, ranking as a top scoring facility during unannounced audits, for demonstrating a commitment to continuous improvement, and for their drive to become a global food safety certified facility. DFA’s food safety team conducts upwards of 300 audits and safety verifications annually on member facilities.

When announcing the Pinnacle award, DFA said Mariani Nut Company, “acts as an exemplary role model for others to follow.”
