For the apple layer:

  • 6 Apples (half sweet, half tart)

  • 2 Tablespoons arrowroot starch or tapioca flour

  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

  • 1/3 cup coconut sugar or brown sugar

  • 1 Tablespoon cinnamon

  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice

For the topping:

  • 1 cup oats

  • 1/2 cup almond flour

  • 1/2 cup walnuts

  • 1/4 cup slivered almonds

  • 1.5 cups cold butter, cubed

  • 1/2 cup coconut sugar

  • 1 Tablespoon cinnamon

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt


INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and butter a 9x13 baking pan. In a medium bowl, combine the starch and spices. Peel and slice the apples and add them to the bowl. Squeeze half of a lemon over the apple mixture and place the apples in the bottoms of the baking pan.

  2. In the bowl, combine the topping ingredients together. Cut in the cold butter cubes with a biscuit cutter. Add the topping on top of the apples in the baking pan.

  3. Bake the baking pan in the oven for 35-40 minutes or until the apple layer starts to bubble. Remove the pan from the oven and allow the crisp to cool. Serve the apple crisp with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top!
